简介:Borgen explores the intricate political dynamics within modern Denmark, focusing on the personal sacrifices and societal impacts of power struggles faced by those central to both governance and media. In Season 3, we encounter a transformed Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), no longer serving as prime minister. Two and a half years prior, she had lost the parliamentary election, failing to secure enough seats to retain power, leading to her resignation and stepping down as party leader to pave the way for emerging figures. Now, she operates as a high-profile business consultant, holding speaking engagements and participating in influential committees that demand frequent travel.
Her former party, the Moderates, has undergone a notable shift in direction. The current leader, Jacob Kruse (Jens Jacob Tychsen)—her ex-crown prince and past betrayer—has steered the party toward conservatism, particularly on immigration. This evolution brings the Moderates closer to the policies of the government led by Lars Hesselboe. Despite her efforts to distance herself from politics, Birgitte finds herself increasingly entangled in the party's new trajectory, struggling with the moral implications of observing from the sidelines.
During a routine presentation for Danish business leaders, the pressure becomes overwhelming. The persistent question of "what she would do if she were Prime Minister" resurfaces, compelling her to confront her past and commit to a new path. She decides to re-enter the political sphere, driven by a desire to shape the future of Danish democracy.
Katrine (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen) and Kasper (Pilou Asbæk) navigate their personal lives amidst their professional pursuits. They now share custody of their son, Gustav, though their relationship has dissolved. Kasper's newfound role as a political analyst on TV1's "Juul & Friis" program, alongside news director Torben Friis (Søren Malling), contrasts with Katrine's demanding career as a TV1 anchor. Torben, accustomed to his position, faces challenges as he adapts to a younger boss, experiencing both professional and personal upheavals.
This season delves into the foundational aspects of democracy—crafting political positions and mobilizing support. The writers pose a provocative question: "CAN YOU ACHIEVE POWER AND REMAIN YOURSELF?"
